If you have a Joomla! website (or would like to uncover the wonders of Joomla!), you should be perusing the Joomla! Community Magazine’s wealth of knowledge – all written by Joomla! users, developers, and designers who know exactly what they’re talking about. It’s a fabulous resource you don’t want to miss, kind of like SEOmoz for organic marketers and the Oxford English Dictionary for word nerds.

April’s issue covers everything from creating effective calls-to-action, to tips to finding a Joomla developer, to interviews with Joomla! professionals and a guide to Joomla!’s 3.0 extensions. Yes, a treasure trove of information, indeed.

ALSO, we’re tickled to share that Ryan Boog, president of Happy Dog Web Productions, published his first article in the magazine this month. His article “Progressive Enhancement: Flip the Script on Your Responsive Ways” has been read over 7,000 times, and had some social media attention. Wahoo!

Why "progressive enhancement" is a vital design technique

In his article, Ryan walks us through balancing two unique aspects of a recent (and complex) design job: creating a desktop website with tons of articles, pages, images, and text, and also creating a mobile version of the same site. He thought, how am I supposed to pare down this huge site for a mobile device?

The solution? Not to pare it down in the first place. Ryan ended up designing by progressive enhancement – which meant starting with the mobile website.

Ryan writes:

The whole uber-important paradigm shift through this process is that you go from “taking things out” to “placing things in."

In past blog posts we’ve talked about Joomla!'s advantages and the incredible community this open source CMS has generated. The magazine is written by members of this community. The magazine publishes feature stories, extensions and service evaluations, website case studies, leadership connections, and more once a month on the Joomla! website. It’s a sweet resource for Joomla! users, both new and advanced!

Check it out!

Also, if you want to learn more about responsive design: Mashable wrote a great post a few months ago about Why 2013 is the Year of Responsive Design

Mobile is the way of the future. It just is. We're glad to help shape the way the web works on it! Ryan is also writing a second article for the Joomla magazine which revolves around mobile technology. This one will be more oriented towards loading times and page speeds. Stay tuned!
